Title 1 - What does that mean??

Being a Title 1 School means that we receive Federal funding to help us provide higher quality reading and math instruction for our students.  This funding also allows us to host family events that enable us to give resources and valuable information to parents about helping their children be successful.  We are able to partner WITH our parents to provide the best possible education for the students in our schools.

Title 1 Building Goals
The Mark Twain Building goals are goals we set as a building for areas that we would like to improve in.  The link will take you to our Building Goals.

A Little About our Title 1 Staff

Mrs. Pugh - Title 1 Teacher and Instructional Coach

Picture
I have been teaching for 23 years.  I began my career teaching 6th and 4th grades in Olathe, KS.  I moved to Carthage, MO in 2004 where I taught 3rd grade for 1 year in Webb City.  I then got a job here in Carthage at Columbian and taught 3rd grade for 14 years and 4th grade for 1 year before becoming a Title 1 teacher.  I received my Master's in Education and my Reading Specialist K-12 Certificate in 2020.  I then moved to Mark Twain where I have been the Title 1 teacher and Instructional Coach.  I love Mark Twain and I am so grateful for the students and staff that I get to work with each day!

Title 1 Compact

Part of being a Title 1 School means that we have a compact between the school, our parents, and our students.  This just means that we agree to make certain things a priority and we ask our parents and students to do the same.  This enables a partnership with parents to help make every student successful.  Please feel free to look at the copies of our Mark Twain Title 1 Compact below.

Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

As a Title 1 School, we invite parents to be a part of our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC).  This group reviews the Title 1 Compact each year, talks about the academic data of our building, and helps us make decisions about the goals and activites we have in our building.  Please take a moment to look over the Parent Involvement Policy Brochure below and be watching for dates of our PAC meetings.
